Dangerous Goods Assessment

A dangerous good is a substance, mixture or article that, because of their physical, chemical (physicochemical) or acute toxicity properties, presents an immediate hazard to people, property or the environment. Types and classes of substances classified as dangerous goods include: 

  • Class 1 – explosives
  • Class 2.1 – flammable gas
  • Class 2.2 – non-flammable gas
  • Class 2.3 – poisonous gas
  • Class 3 – flammable liquid
  • Class 4.1 – flammable solids
  • Class 4.2 – spontaneously combustible
  • Class 4.3 – dangerous when wet
  • Class 5.1 – oxidizing agent
  • Class 5.2 – organic peroxide
  • Class 6 – poisons and harmful substances
  • Class 7 – radioactive substances
  • Class 8 – corrosives
  • Class 9 – miscellaneous dangerous goods 

Given the nature of some dangerous goods and the incompatibility of same with other dangerous goods, hazardous substances, people and the environment. A thorough and proper assessment is paramount – many variables are considered when assessing your dangerous goods; the DG class, compatibility with other substances, storage, proximity to public spaces, segregation, signage, placarding, manifests and emergency response measures are all evaluated to ensure compliance.
